The New Jersey Institute of Technology and IBM have teamed up to provide access and education to new technologies.

The partnership between NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management and IBM’s Global University Programs will provide students access to boot camps and workshops with IBM’s latest technologies.

“Being the first university to implement the IBM Skills Academy Program aligns with NJIT’s history of engagement with industry, which has resulted in dramatic impacts on economic development and has helped prepare our graduates for uncommon career success,” said NJIT President Joel Bloom at an event that formalized the partnership on Thursday.

As of the fall 2017 semester, NJIT offers courses in three specific career tracks: business intelligence analyst, business process analyst and predictive analyst modeler.

Students will have the ability to earn certificates for IBM tools, industry-recognized credentials and academic credits that relate to their coursework.

The workshops and tools are also open to nearby communities. The partnership is intended to expand beyond NJIT’s campus, offering the same resources to working professionals, veterans and other groups interested in improving their educational attainment.

The partnership is part of two trends across New Jersey’s higher education institutions: increasing access to STEM fields and broadening post-secondary education to welcome more nontraditional students.

“I’m looking at the future right now. Higher education has to transform, so that we’re preparing our students in real-time to do in-demand jobs with the kinds of skills that business and industry are looking for,” Secretary of Higher Education Rochelle Hendricks said in a statement about the partnership.
